John Halal

John Halal began his career in the beauty industry as a hairstylist over 37 years ago and owned and operated beauty salons for 33 years. Halal is cosmetology instructor and the founder and president of Honors Beauty College, Inc. since 1992.

Halal is an active member of the Professional Beauty Association (PBA) and the Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC). Halal is the current President of the American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS) and is a past President of the Indiana Cosmetology Educators Association (ICEA).

Halal is the author of “Hair Structure and Chemistry Simplified,” and “Milady’s Hair Care Ingredients Dictionary” and is a contributing editor to “Miladys’ Standard 2000 Textbook of Cosmetology.”

In 2005, Halal recieved the "Board Member of the Year Award" from the American Association of Cosmetology Schools.

Halal's essay "What a Difference a Decade Makes" was chosen as one of the "Outstanding Call for Presentation Papers" at the BBSI's Cope '90 Conference, in Tucson, Arizona.

Halal's educational presentation received the 1982 award for the "Outstanding Educational Program" from the Indiana State Cosmetologist Association.

In 1998, 1999 and 2000, John & Friends was selected by Salon Today Magazine as one of "America's Top 200 Fastest Growing Salons". His Fisher's salon was featured for its "Award Winning Design" in the July/August 1997 issue of Salon Today Magazine. John & Friends was selected as the "Salon of the Month" for February 1989, by American Salon Magazine.

Halal obtained his associate’s degree, with highest distinction, from Indiana University and is currently completing his bachelor’s. He is a member of The Golden Key National Honor Society and Alpha Sigma Lambda.
